Black Ebony, Diospyros, can be found worldwide. Famously used for instruments, including black piano keys, ebony is dense enough to sink in water. It is finely textured and has a very smooth finish when polished.
Bloodwood, Brosimum paraense, is native to South America. It is one of the reddest woods available without resorting to a bottle of dye. Extremely dense with a straight grain, it can also be called Satine as it takes on a lustrous polished when polished.
Tiger Ebony, Diospyros embryopteris, is native to Southeast Asia. It has a yellow base with black streaks creating a unique pattern throughout each piece. The striations can vary from thin lines to thick bands revealing a unique character, never duplicated in another piece. A dense wood, tiger ebony has a very smooth finish when polished.”
